About Us

Our Mission Statement

We emulate Jesus by...
Expressing love radically
Worshiping joyfully with purpose
Exposing and fighting injustice
...as we grow spiritually together

Vision Narrative

We are a diverse, progressive Christian COMMUNITY whose faith compels us to love others unconditionally as Jesus did. Valuing, respecting and serving all cultures, languages and traditions, we stand in solidarity with those without a voice. Partnering with other communities we speak truth to power, taking risks and seeking justice for everyone.

We are a safe, sacred CENTER of spiritual nourishment and growth where all can experience God’s grace, love and peace. Our congregation’s cherished 100-year history is the foundation of our future as freethinkers. We know we do not have all the answers. We seek truth.

Aspiring to be the LIGHT of God’s shalom for the greater community, we serve as a beacon of hope. God’s light refracts as a prism through each of us, uniquely manifesting the Divine.

Open & Affirming

Open and Affirming Statement

First Church UCC, Phoenix

Because we believe all people are beloved children of God, we welcome them into the full life, ministry, fellowship and leadership of this congregation. We do this without regard to age, race, ethnicity, or national origin; physical, mental, emotional ability or disability; gender, marital status, gender identity, or sexual orientation; socio-economic background or circumstance, political affiliation or immigration status.

We, the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Phoenix, Arizona, declare ourselves to be an Open and Affirming congregation. We offer ourselves as an inclusive community in which the Gospel of God's love for all people is honored and practiced. We affirm this church as a place of hope and a community of welcome to all in Christ's name.

Our Prayer is that the variety of the gifts of the Holy Spirit given to those present and those God is yet to call into our midst will make us ever more useful servants of God to our brothers and sisters within our church, our many kinds of families, our neighborhoods and our world.
