Stewardship 2018

Dear Congregant & Supporter,

First Church UCC delivers a bold mission statement in which we proclaim, “We emulate Jesus by…expressing love radically, worshipping joyfully with purpose, exposing and fighting injustice…as we grow spiritually together."

This stewardship season, we would like our congregants and supporters to reflect on the words “love” and "dream" and what they mean to them in relation to our spiritual community and the greater Phoenix community that we are part of. Our spiritual community is dedicated to showing love for all people…Open & Affirming in every way possible. In doing so, our mission and vision of who we desire to be as a spiritual community is manifested on a daily basis.

This mission and vision is illustrated by the outpouring of love that we show those who are experiencing homelessness in our community every Sunday when they are fed and throughout the summer when we provide over 1600 sandwiches. It is reflected in the support for local first graders with their back-to-school needs and in making their Christmas dreams come true. Our fight against injustice against immigrants, the LGBTQIA community and all those who are treated unequally has taken on new vigor, as we have boldly stepped out to facilitate the Unity Vigil and March in August of 2017 that drew 700+ people and the White Privilege series of talks that are drawing many from outside our community to be part of our vision of equal and just treatment for all people.

As you hear about the increasing impact of our ministries, we ask you to prayerfully consider how you can increase the impact of your ministry at First Church UCC during this stewardship season. Consider this through your prayers and conversations with the God of your understanding.

The way our Beloved Community chooses to “Love Without Limits” on a daily basis has profound impact within the church, in our local community and around the globe. We will continue to highlight the increasing impact of our church community and beginning Sunday, October 29th we will be asking our congregants to share what they love about our spiritual community, our local community and what your dreams are for our community moving forward.

Stewardship Sunday is November 19th. Return your pledge card to the church office or place it in the collection plate anytime through November 19th. Be as generous as you are called to be, as we boldly move forward as Beloved Community. Let’s multiply our gifts in order to ensure that there is enough for all. For example, a pledge of just $20 each week will pay for one month room sponsorship of our Immigration Clinic and 400 lunches for Grace in the City’s outreach to those experiencing homelessness in our neighborhood.

In gratitude for our church family & Beloved Community,
