How do I become a Member?

Rite of Membership

First Church, United Church of Christ

First Church United Church of Christ believes there is One Spiritual Reality, God. We respect each other’s previous, current and ongoing faith journeys.  Do you now commit yourself/yourselves to faithfully pursue your relationship with God?

New Member/s: I/We commit myself/ourselves, looking to the Spirit for guidance.

Do you who are current members of First Church, recommit yourselves to this promise?

Current Members: We do.

One: We are the body of Christ and are called to carry out Jesus’ ministry of peace and social justice, compassion, and liberation for all people regardless of background, identity or status. This is a community of welcome to all.

Do you dedicate yourself/yourselves to this ministry?

New Member/s: I/We do, looking to the Spirit for courage and compassion.

One:   Will you who are current members, rededicate yourselves to this ministry?

Current Members: We rededicate ourselves.

One:   In covenant relationship, do you now promise to contribute as able your loyalty, your talents, and your financial support?

New Member/s: I/We promise to share my/our gifts and presence.

One:   As current members, will you re-covenant to share your gifts?

Current Members: We recommit to share our gifts and presence.

One:   As spiritual family, do you promise to welcome each other, to offer respect amid diversity, to walk with one another by supporting each other in times of sorrow and celebrating with one another in times of joy?

New and Current Members: We promise to walk with one another in partnership.

One:   Let us affirm our support.

All: As we have heard and witnessed the covenant between and among members, we affirm our support and dedication to the community that is First Church United Church of Christ.
